UNDP Reveals Strategy to Provide Support for Curbing Illegal Migration

Khartoum – UNDP Country Director in Sudan affirmed the commitment to provide the required support to curb the illegal migration phenomenon.

UNDP Country Director, Mr. Selva Ramachandran said that they are waiting for the approval to conduct the study which will be forwarded to the government to enable it address the specialized organizations for the purpose of attracting the required support for the migrants and the hosting communities.
For his part, Minister of International Cooperation, Idriss Suleiman who met with the UNDP Country Manager lauded the joint cooperation between the Ministry and the UNDP in several axes.
He pointed out that a team from the UNDP has conducted a comprehensive survey to assess the situations of the refugees and migrants in the three states of the East (Gedarif, Kassala and Red Sea), adding that the meeting has discussed the outcomes of the study represented by the reasons of migration and the targeted categories.
For her part, State Minister at the Ministry of International Cooperation, Sumaiya Ukud said that the issue of refugees and migrants is on top of the priorities of the Ministry, adding that she will ask the related institutions to study the contents of the study.
