Al Bashir from Addis: February Negotiations on the Two Areas will Make Breakthrough on Peace

Khartoum - UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres hailed the Sudanese government's efforts to achieve peace, particularly in Darfur states and ceasefire steps.

UN Secretary-General met Sudanese President, Omer Al Bashir yesterday on the sidelines of the 30th African Summit in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, where they discussed the internal situation in Sudan and a number of issues in the region.
Guterres lauded Sudan's role in hosting southern refugees and achieving peace in South Sudan, Khartoum's role in combating irregular migration and human trafficking, besides Sudan's efforts in maintaining peace in Libya, Central Africa Republic and South Sudan alone and through IGAD, stressing the important role of Sudan in achieving a consensus on the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.
Foreign Minister, Ibrahim Ghandour said, in a press statement after the meeting that Guterres discussed with President Al Bashir peace in Darfur region and confirmed the continuation of redeployment of UNAMID forces in Darfur, as agreed, noting that President Al Bashir, in turn, confirmed his commitment to complete the peace process in Darfur. Sudan, saying that the ceasefire comes within the framework of efforts to complete the peace process in the country.
Ghandour said that President Al Bashir assured the UN Secretary-General that the next round of peace with the SPLM-N on February 1 will see a breakthrough in the process of achieving peace.
On the other hand, Ghandour described the meeting between presidents Omer Al Bashir and Abdel-Fattah Al-Sisi on the sidelines of the African summit held in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa, as a historical meeting after the problems of the relations between the two countries in the previous period, saying that the meeting put points on the letters and that the relationship between the two countries is historical and eternal ones, indicating that the two heads of state directed the foreign ministers of the two countries and the security and intelligence chiefs to meet urgently to draw up a road map that would restore the relations of the two countries to the right track and fortify them in the future from any problems, as well as development of a future relationship to be a strong one between the two countries through popular, legislative, political and economic relations, adding that the two presidents had directed to control media discourse and that the presidents' discussion was only with regard to the bilateral relations between Sudan and Egypt.
