President's Wife: Constitution Protects Women and Children's Health in Sudan

Khartoum - The wife of the President of the Republic, Widad Babiker, has affirmed that women and children's health in Sudan is guaranteed by the Constitution as it also

finds support from the Presidency.
This came when the wife of the President of the Republic paid a visit to the International Sudanese-Turkish Center for Midwives Training in Omdurman Monday accompanied by the wife of the President of the Republic of Turkey, Mrs. Emine Erdogan, and Federal Ministers of Health and Social Security and Development.
Sayda Widad Babiker has said that training of midwives is among the strategic national goals, affirming that the partnership with the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) has contributed to provision of advanced training for midwives in Sudan as well as for midwives from neighboring countries, calling for more support for the center so that it would be developed into a pioneering institution.
The slogan of "a midwife for every village" has become a concrete reality thanks to the efforts of this center, she added.
She further pointed out that the civil society has become a strategic partner in the implementation of the strategy in this connection.
Mrs. Emine Erdogan, on her part, has said that the Sudanese women are assuming prominent positions in all aspects of the political and social life.
She added that Turkey has made wide strides in the field of women and children's health and has been able to cut maternal mortality rate, saying that they are ready to provide their expertise to Sudan in this field.
She hailed the 10 participants who had training in the Turkish universities, saying that they would provide expertise and training to the midwives.
