President Kenyatta: Importance of Concentrating on Trade and Economic Relations

Khartoum - The Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta stressed on the importance of concentrating on the trade and economic relations between the Sudan and Kenya. He

added in a press conference with his counterpart Sudanese President Omer Al Bashir at the end of his two-day visit to Khartoum that, “the stability that prevails in the two countries would assist in this regard”.
The Sudanese President hailed the pioneering role of President Kenyatta on pursing peace in South Sudan and in the whole region. In addition to that the two presidents voiced their readiness to work together to achieve peace and stability in the region and Africa. Also, the Kenyan President pointed to the importance of the prevalence of peace in South Sudan which would enhance trade between Sudan and Kenya through facilitating transport through South Sudan.
On his side, President Al Bashir elaborated on the positive political development in Sudan especially as regard the finalization of the National Dialogue process which incorporate all Sudanese political forces and the rebel and armed forces and which aimed to solve all Sudan problems. The Kenyan President commended the positive political development relating to the dialogue and pointed to the importance of the dialogue and expressed Kenya’s utmost support to this process that would eventually lead to resolving Sudanese problems and bring about peace and stability in a ‘friendly country, as he described Sudan.
The two presidents in their joint press conference stressed on several important issues for the two countries which include agreement to exert the necessary efforts to alleviate the debt burden from Sudan and other affected African countries and called upon the international community to work on this direction.
They also expressed their worry and concern towards the unilateral coercive measures that are imposed against Sudan and some other African countries which adversely affect innocent civilians and have negative economic and humanitarian effects. They have agreed to launch a profound political and diplomatic campaign at various regional and international for to combat and ultimately abolish such measures.
Presidents Al Bashir and Kenyatta also noted the recent development trend in combating the ICC as manifested in the decision by some African countries to withdraw from the International Criminal Court as its Statute and reiterated their commitment to the African Union resolutions in this respect and expressed their resolute to continue their coordination and cooperation to ensure that the AU resolutions to counter the ICC are fully implemented.
It is worth mentioning that the Kenyan President was accompanied by a high level delegation comprising Ministers and high ranking officials including the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Mining and the Majority Leader in the Kenyan National Assembly.
