Gum Arabic a Sudanese Strategic Product

Khartoum- Gum Arabic is one the commodities that US failed to list it as part of the commodities to be imported from Sudan

as the first producer in the world, for its importance as part of the food and medical industries and the soft drinks. This exception of Gum Arabic made it strategic Sudanese national commodity. It contributes highly in the national economy.
Regards to statistics of the Gum Arabic Council, its exports reached 60,000 tons in 2014, and it revenues were US$ 100 million .In the first six months of 2015 it increased to 34,000 tons with revenues of US $ 50 million. The increase in Gum Arabic exports recently due to the orientation of the consumers in Europe and America to import from Sudan in particular to avoid the threatens and fears about Ebola disease which spread in some west Africa countries , beside the instability of political situations , disputes that affected in the production of Gum Arabic in these areas .
The government adopted many important procedures to increase the production of the Gum Arabic, represented into the development and marketing of Gum Arabic, adopted by the National Corporation of Forests, to increase the production of Gum Arabic and its revenues for the small producers in the Gum Arabic belt, through improving of and developing of the systems of producing and marketing .The project targeted 8 localities in the Blue Nile, Sennar, White Nile, North and South Kordofan states.
It worth mentioning that Gum Arabic product represents 80% of the total product of the world till last century. It is not less important than Gold or animal wealth. 5 million persons are working in Gum Arabic sector, in Kordofan, and Darfur states as the most producing states, beside the Blue Nile, White Nile, and Gedarif.
 Economic experts described Gum Arabic of Sudan as at top in compared with that of the West African countries, added that employers and labors tend to gold mining which competes the Gum Arabic.
Abdallah Ali Massar, head of Industry and Trade at the Parliament pointed to Sudan ability to export 500,000 tons with a cost of US$ 15 billion.
Musa Karama , minister of industry called for benefitting  from this characteristic of Gum Arabic as strategic commodity , pointed to mismanaging of policies in the Gum Arabic .
